Process Post for Project #1

My project is slowly moving downhill, however I am still confident in my ideas and my vision, but the ways I need to execute my vision in project 2 definitely needs to be revised.

Initially, I worked with water and scoring to attach the wings of my bird to the body, and it worked while the sculpture was drying, however after drying to be leather hard, the entire left wing suddenly slipped off. I know the break wasn't due to the applied pressure because the entire wing broke off, even the parts of the clay that I had used to make the attachment look more seamless. With the help of Ms. Utterback and Coach Hall, we concluded that the break was due to lack of scoring and also due to lack of slip. I realized that slip isn't just the water used to attach elements of the clay, and that I had failed to accurately research the methods needed to execute a successful clay sculpture, so next project I will make sure that I am jumping through all of the correct hoops needed to complete a successful sculpture.

I also would like to consider a more time effect way to produce the feathered texture on the wings and body of the bird. I might consider using a scoring tool to cut a feather shape out of the existing wings, but I don't think this should replace the bottom texture of the wings because those provide bigger definition of the wings of the bird. I might consider just cutting the shapes out of the top of the wing because those require less definition but still requires a little shape to support the visual interest.

Overall, because my project has gone downhill, project 1 has now become a pre-cursing planning experience for project 2, and I expect to implement many ideas and things that I have learned into project two!
