Oil painting process post - final

Over the course of this project, oil painting has become really enjoyable and important to me. I really like the depth and the realism that the medium allowed for and I came to appreciate oil painting more and consider it more and more for next year as the project progressed. Reflecting on the project as a whole, I really liked oil painting, however I think that I didn't like the undertones/ the glaze painting. If I continued oil painting in the future, I would only consider either only using oil when painting in black and white, or only using primavera or direct painting styles. I liked the depth that was achievable with oil painting, and I really would be interesting on focusing on how to find that depth with a more direct painting style, or even glazing just without an underpainting. Some things that I thought were difficult about this assignment were figuring out how to create the depth that a lot of paintings had, and figuring out how to correctly match the tone of the color with a translucent glaze, because it was hard to tell if it was correct when it was superseded over the black and white underpainting. In conclusion, I really liked this project and working with oil paint, however in the future I would really like to paint directly or without the underpainting (maybe even with an underpainting that uses different colors, brown, red, etc).
