I LOVED visiting the Visual Arts Center, as it was a new experience because I have never been there. I liked seeing my art in conjuncture with other Gold Key winners, however I found me comparing my work to a lot of other people's, which I thought was interesting because I think of myself as fairly a fairly confident artist. In light of this, seeing other young, relatively local people's was really inspiring, however it was also very enlightening. I liked seeing all of the materials that are available to kids because it was interesting to see what young people gravitate towards. It seems as though embroidery was very popular this year, as well as plain pencil or charcoal. Something that I thought was interesting was the number of paintings that addressed climate change, however even more surprising was the amount of art that nodded to childhood. I saw a lot of paintings with a lot of symbols such as rainbows, toys, extremely saturated colors, and lowered perspective that were definitely nods to their childhoods. Interestingly, I also noticed that a lot of creations revolved around parental figures as well and the effect of parents on children.
